HELLO THERE !
I love a bad joke. Whether it’s a dad joke that you’ve heard a million times, or a genuinely well-crafted situational pun, I live for them and always have. There is just something about taking the different elements in a joke and tailoring them in a way to subvert expectations and create an end result that walks a fine line between making cohesive sense yet also being clever and original. That is why I am so passionate about design. I pride myself in being able to take elements of a brand, as well as well-known symbols, and tailoring them into an end result that balances elegant design and representative storytelling.
I’ve had this passion for graphic design since I was about 13 years old. I remember watching a YouTube video of hidden messages in logos and from that moment on I was hooked. In high school, we had very limited art classes, so I bought Photoshop and would spend my free time color swapping NBA logos with their rivals. In college, at the University
of Minnesota-Duluth, I was really able to learn not only how to design, but why.
It was also here where I put two and two together that crafting good design is like
crafting a good joke.
In the spirit of jokes, I like to not take myself too seriously when doing design work. I have found that having a bit of fun, making things that might look bad, and jamming out to some music makes for a much better workflow than stubbornly sitting on one part of a design and slightly reworking and reworking it until it looks perfect. As a result, some of my end results are humorous and silly, but others are sophisticated and clean. That balance is the beauty of design, and the beauty of jokes really. I can make a logo like I can make a pun; design in a system like telling a knock-knock joke is a system; and can be effective with minimal design like a great one-liner.
When I am not designing or telling bad jokes, you can typically find me woefully rooting for Minnesota sports teams, catching up on some of my favorite shows, spending time with friends and family, or looking at my BFA in Graphic Design diploma framed on my wall.
If you are looking for a goofy yet hardworking, lighthearted but calculated, funny and extremely passionate designer, look no further! Please feel free to reach out and connect, I would be happy to get to know you!
